Yeah, looks like that is a socket that should be snapped into something. It wouldn;t be sliding metal to metal. Like a plastic bushing or something. Probably cracked if it is out of it. Can you find a diagram anywhere?

I have 2 extra doors in storage from repairing the passenger side. I can look at those to see what they look like. They both were find I think.
